Honoring

Gen. James Robertson

'The Father of Tennessee'

He was born in Brunswick County, Virginia in 1742.

His parents moved to North Carolina when James was 8 years old. The family lived in what is now Vance County for a time, then moved to present-day Wake County.

In 1771, forces loyal to the British Crown defeated a large group of citizen protesters in the Battle of Alamance, which many historians consider the first battle of the Revolutionary War.
